This website (krisledel.com) is a personal blog by Kris Ledel. Your privacy is important. This policy explains what data is collected and how it is used.
What data is collected
Analytics
This site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to measure page views and page performance. This service does not use analytics cookies or follow visitors across websites. Cloudflare also processes network requests to deliver and protect the site. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
Hosting
This site is hosted on Railway and served through Cloudflare. These services may collect standard server logs (IP address, browser type, timestamps) as part of normal operations. This data is used for security and performance purposes only.
RSS statistics
Requests to the writing and audio feeds are counted separately. To estimate returning feed clients, the server hashes a shortened IP address together with the browser or reader identifier, using a private salt. The statistics file stores these hashes, dates, request counts and reader categories, not full IP addresses. These are pseudonymous client estimates, not an exact count of subscribers or individual people.
Detailed RSS statistics are retained for a rolling 45-day window on persistent storage. Access to the statistics is restricted. Hosting logs may also contain the hashed RSS identifier and request metadata; their retention is controlled by the hosting provider.
Local storage
This site stores two pieces of data in your browser's localStorage, both of which stay entirely on your device and are never transmitted to any server:
- Theme preference (light/dark mode).
- Audio playback position, so that if you start listening to an article reading and navigate away, the mini-player can resume from where you left off. This contains only the article URL, title, audio file path, and playback position. It is cleared when the audio finishes or when you dismiss the mini-player. You can also remove it by clearing this site's browser storage.
Audio readings (Labs)
Some articles offer an audio reading generated with ElevenLabs. The audio files themselves are hosted on this site and streamed directly from Railway. ElevenLabs is not contacted when you listen, the audio is only generated once during production and then served as a regular MP3 file.
Spotify
The Spotify player is not loaded until you click its preview button. After that click, your browser connects to Spotify, which receives request information such as your IP address and browser details and may use cookies or other storage under its own policies. Closing the player removes the embedded frame; it does not delete storage Spotify may already have set. You can instead use the external Spotify link. See Spotify's privacy policy.
Accounts and advertising
This blog does not provide reader accounts, collect newsletter email addresses, sell visitor data or use advertising trackers. The blog itself does not set analytics cookies. Hosting, security and explicitly loaded third-party services process requests as described above.

Articles may contain links to external websites (Medium, Substack, LinkedIn). These sites have their own privacy policies. This site is not responsible for their practices.
Third-party services
Fonts use your device's installed typefaces. No request is made to Google Fonts. Audio files are served by this site's hosting infrastructure; Spotify is a separate, optional service.

The RSS estimates do not identify you by name, so linking a request to an individual may not be possible. You can also contact the relevant data protection authority.
